About Dr. Gariepy
Dr Joseph Gariepy . As an undergraduate, Dr. Gariepy studied in the pre-med program at Southern Connecticut State University, studying cellular biology and chemistry. He intended to study medicine.
It was during his senior year at SCSU, studying drug synthesis, that he discovered the path of conventional medicine was not for him.
“We studied a drug’s mechanism and its side effects. It was then I started to realize that these drugs don’t often fix a disease. It seems as if they are just covering up the symptoms. I want to get my patients better, and not just mask the symptoms.”
Dr. Gariepy entered the College of Naturopathic Medicine at the University of Bridgeport. His course of study included three years of clinical nutrition, two years of homeopathy and botanical medicine, and multiple clinical rotations, including obstetrics, gynecology, pulmonology, and integrative oncology, to name a few. He graduated in 2007 with his N.D.
After graduating, Dr. Gariepy wanted expanded experience treating children. He took a one-year internship with Dr. Sophia Leonida, M.D. at Stationhouse Pediatrics, assisting in diagnosing approximately 30 kids a day.
Since 2008, Dr. Gariepy has developed a following of patients both in private practice and in shared practice, including his work at Avena Integrative Medical Center in Putnam, CT and the Center for Natural Healing.
